Can you share something you struggled with but overcame?

"When a company I worked for downsized and my position was eliminated. This ended up being the catalyst to starting my business."

What's something you've accomplished that you're really proud of?

"Reaching the 10 year anniversary of my business in 2002. I felt if I made it 10 years, I was good to go!"

There really are silver linings if you work hard enough to make it so."

How do you support other women?

"Mentoring, free business consulting, serving on the Board of NAWBO."

(Jess is a Past-President of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Greater Raleigh chapter, and she has served as Board Treasurer for over 10 years.)

What's something adventurous that you've done, and would you do it again?

"Walked a half-marathon without prepping for it."

"Would do it again but only if I trained for it!"

Where will we find you in retirement?

"At a Carolina Hurricanes game, in the mountains, or at the beach."

"I love to read mystery/adventure novels."

"If I can't put it down until I am done, it gets 5 stars."

What's something you're working on that's still in progress?

"Renovating our home. We started over a year ago. To date we are about half way done. Still need to update my home office, build a desk, work on the yard, clean out the garage, and..."

What's an activity that calms you?

"Reading with my feet propped up on the hearth of our fireplace in the mountains - with a roaring fire."
