In less than two weeks, web developers from around the Triangle will come together for one incredible cause: creating new websites for nonprofits in need.
48in48 is a charity event that builds 48 websites in 48 hours. Since 2015, this hackathon-style program has generated more than $10.5 Million in value through websites, logos, and marketing education for nonprofits whose impact and exposure has grown as a result.
Our team member Vanessa Smith will be participating in the event, lending support within a team of volunteers to help deserving nonprofits kick off a new digital presence.
This will be Reify Media’s first year participating. When we spoke with the 48in48 special events manager Ethan Parish, he described that 48in48 creates SUSTAINABLE websites for nonprofits – they create beautiful sites, then they help train the groups on how to update those sites.
“To me, [48in48] is about bringing value to these groups that have spent their whole lives doing good. But it’s also bigger than that, so many connections are made at these events that the value extends way beyond the 48 hours.” said Ethan.
Needless to say, that resonated pretty well with us. What makes Reify unique is our focus on training and sustainability, which is why we leverage tools like WordPress so that the sites we create can be updated easily by the teams who manage them.
“Teaching others how to navigate and maintain their own sites is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. Together we figure out what best fits their workflow, and it allows them to become a working part in the long-term success of their own goals. I hope my participation in 48in48 will be an extension of that.” said Vanessa.
